Coalition Completes Two-year Community Stewardship Grant and Starts a New One

The RdP Coalition completed a two-year Community Stewardship grant from the Missouri Department of Conservation in December, and was just awarded a second two-year grant to continue these habitat restoration efforts.

With these funds, we stepped up our efforts to establish native habitat along the creek at Deer Creek Park and along the upper River des Peres at Mona Terrace. With hundreds of volunteer hours, we've cleared significant colonies of invasives (Knotweed, Japanese Hops, and Bush Honeysuckle). The more fun and exciting phase was replanting these cleared areas with a wide variety of native plants that will provide beauty to users of the adjacent pedestrian/bike paths AND habitat for birds and other visiting fauna! We removed a dense honeysuckle grove. Note the lovely blue mistflower coming in nicely one year later.
